Hi,
Yesterday, for the 1st time since having the 2 cerbs in the family, my son and I went for a wee spin.
We swapped over cars for a while just to get a comparison between the two.
Once we stopped to swap over again the first thing he said to me was you sit a lot higher in the 4.2, just as I was about to say you sit a lot lower in the 4.5 !!
Well I`ve done a couple of measurements here and there and have come to the conclusion the seats in the 4.5 are 15-20mm lower ie - 15-20mm more space between the seat and the roof.
Had a look under the seats and both appear to have the same style runners and both on the same way.
Yet there is a good deal more room under the 4.2 seat.
I can fit my hand under mine but no real room under his.
Is this just a quirk of being handmade cars where no two are the same.
Maybe the body moulding where the seat mounts are different.
By the way the 4.5 is a 1998 S reg and the 4.2 is 1999 T reg.
We have noticed a few other differences ie the cover in front of the engine on mine has the embossed TVR logo - his doesnt.
I have the later style vents on the dash whereas he has the line of small holes from one side to the other.
Could there have been other changes which affected the seat mountings.
Any thoughts or pointers.

What mileage have they each done? Some cars are solely only ever driven by one person, so if you swap from drivers seat to passenger seat the passenger seat seems to sit higher because the foam is 'fresher'.

If your cars are similar mileage, maybe one had a slightly heavier weight driver(!)

Hi,
Had considered it may just be the the padding in the seat but its not just the bit you sit on thats lower, the whole seat appears to be lower, and its both the passenger and drivers seats.
The car with the lower seats has covered approx 45000 miles whilst the other is nearer 65000 miles.
Once set up in identical positions the two sets of seats differ in height by approximately the length of the headrest connection - if that makes sense.

The lower seat one may have been spec'd (or modified) to be lower for a taller driver?

Right.
So is that something that could have been specified when this car was being built ?
Whether that be the case, or whether it has been modified later, where would the modification be made ?
The mounting points. The runners. Or the seat itself.
Is there any way of finding out what position the standard seat would be set at.
Be interesting to know, out of the two cars, which one, if any, is the standard height.
Can see the looks I`ll be getting from every cerb owner that I meet from now on as I start talking about seat heights as opposed to engine rebuilds and suspension and tuning mods etc.
What a sado.nerd

Can't get my slender hand under the seats of my 4.5 (tried and failed to retrieve something yesterday).

Well, you may just have to knuckle down, break out the angle grinder and remove the whole seat if your going to get that 2p coin back hehe
Joking apart, there`s not a lot of room under the 4.5 seats.
Interesting to hear from anyone else as to how much room they have under their seats, ie whether you can get your hand in or not.
By "getting your hand in", I mean palm flat on the carpet and sliding it under.
Beginning to wonder if there are spacers on mine somewhere.
Short of removing it to see, I can only guess.

On my '97 4.2 there is no way you would get a hand or anything else under the seat. There is only the height of the rails between that and the floor.

I think we should all be " in a home" smile
Thanks to all for taking the time to check and to your replies.
Looks like I'm just going to have to live with it meantime.
The more I move from one car to the other I've decided it's not an unacceptable difference.

Bored in a traffic queue yesterday, I can fit my hand easily under the front of the seat.

Mmmmm, think my chances of remaining on the site would be severly diminished if I were to do that wink

Can anyone verify the height of their Cerbera seats from ground level? I've just ordered a 4.5L Cerbera but am going in for a knee replacement next month and I'm told that bending a replacement knee is a bonus if it goes past 90 degrees.
