When checking the oil the manual says only when the car is cold. When I check it hot it seems ok but when I check it cold (and the car isnt quite level) I get an ok reading when I first check but when I wipe the dipper and check again it is hardly clear where the reading is.

There seems to be a real technique to checking the oil level. Took me about two weeks of turning the air blue in my garage to work out that you have to keep the dipstick as straight as possible (which sort of involves bending the first foot of dipstick back on its self as you draw it out for the reading).

Probably no help what so ever but it works for me!

Agree with jurdy - takes a lot of a knack. Also sometimes it's more obvious on the reverse side of the dipstick, with reference to the little hole. Also worth having it completely level - any incline seems to make quite a difference.

Still - much easier than on the Speed 6, so we're lucky really!
