Every year magazines, internet platforms and consumer guides issue charts of the most reliable and unreliable cars and this week in the motoring trade press MG is listed as the most unreliable brand and somewhere else MINI is listed as the most reliable brand.
As someone who worked in the industry in the UK for many years and who had a father who owned a number of British franchised dealerships my view is that before the customer gets the car it passes through a dealership. There faults should be picked up before it gets to the customer. A good dealership turns out good cars. If the technicians are not trained properly or are used to looking past possible faults then the customer suffers and complains and gives bad reviews.
Manufacturers should only award franchises to highly rated dealerships and then train them properly. Dealerships should employ good technicians and train them on the models that they sell.
