Volvo now exclusively sells SUVs in the UK, having discontinued all of its saloon and estate cars.
At least, no more Volvo estates in the UK, they will continue in other markets.

A 740GLE was the first 'posh' car my parents had, and they were a common sight in the 80s and 90s, epitomising the middle class family on British roads. So it seems at once incredible that they will be no more, but also unsurprising given the strength of the trend towards SUVs in the family car market.

I've had numerous 740 and 940 estates. Best cars I ever owned by far!

I don’t believe they sold more S90’s than V90’s in the UK.

Saloon is going to. So all S and V models are going. Shame, as I’m looking to buy something new potentially, and a plug in V90 would be just lovely.

They didn't, but I think the article references global sales.

Europe seems to be the last bastion of the estate, and they are now becoming an endangered species!

Sad times, we've had our V70 5 years and would like to replace it with a V90 in a few years. Makes the gene pool now even smaller for those of us who want a large family car but don't want an SUV.

Really sad but if no one's buying them anymore, can't blame them.

We absolutely should blame the consumer. I’m not being funny.

Sad times.

That said the only new estate I've truly lated over in the last year or so is that Alpina 5 Series and that's North of £100k.

yes In a journey from Cambridgeshire to Norfolk and back again, i must have seen 2 V90 police cars but about a dozen or so XC90's and it's telling that the Highways Agency Traffic Orrificers and the VOSA ones all use XC90's too

Earlier this week I was waiting at a level crossing in Surrey for a train to pass. I was next to a small train station car park in which 3 police cars were parked up. Police officers were making their way onto the station platform. One of the police cars was a Tesla which surprised me - I had never seen a Tesla police car before.

I looked it up and it turns out British Transport Police in Surrey are using Teslas.

i fell like the move to SUV has been for many ears pushed by the manufacturers, for such a floored design. it seems like this has been in the pipeline for many years in the plan to slow us all down ( good for EV batteries) and the SUV platform is also good for packing all that extra weight.

Sad really driving has now become a chore rather than something to be enjoyed, and future generations have no interest in cars , seeing them as bad in every way thanks to gov climate fearmongering. Seeing the crap they teach my 12 yr old at school were doomed.

I don’t think it’s for any other reason than profit, SUV’s cost a bit more to make but people are prepared to pay a lot more for them than conventional hatch/estate/saloon, which are now seen by most as old fashioned.

This was mentioned on the sniff and smith podcast, Volvo will continue to sell estates for service customers and they will be sold on the open market at the end of service life.

Unmarked volvo estates may less subtle.
