Two articles which were posted several hours ago from at least 2 reliable sources indicating issues with Renault and their financial difficulties at the moment.

This is alarming that we could lose a company on the scale of Renault, but I'm hoping a managerial and financial re-shuffle will sort this out.

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-health-coronavir...

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/renaul...

I'm sure sadly this will mean the end of their F1 team and Renault may have to look at either selling off it's shares in Nissan and Mitsubishi as well as a decrease in the number of models in their range with talk of losing the Megane, Scenic, Talisman, Espace and Koleos worldwide.

I'm keen to know what's happening as my wife has a brand new Captur S-Model on order which is now in the UK and due into the dealership next week for PDI.

Renault can't put all of this down to COVID-19 though, their range is poor with the Megane being a flop, pulling the plug on the once popular Scenic, no new Espace or Laguna(Tailsman) here and an shift towards SUV. The current RS range is too expensive and in some areas far behind it's rivals.

The Alliance isn't working as strong as it should or in anyway like VAG and the ongoing saga of Carlos Ghosn in Japan still lingering.

Could Renault disappear without the help of the French Government?

I play the stock market and looking at the basic numbers this is a strong possibility.
https://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=RNLSY&...
Earnings growth last year -104%
Shares traded on Friday 44,585. (Ford traded 76 million shares on Friday)
And the price chart for the last 3 years screams "Run away"

Am sure the French government will bail them out. Again. But it will not be treated as state aid by the EU - there’s always been one rule for the french and another for the rest of us...

Renault has been too diluted by Nissan, Dacia, Mitsubishi, making very average cars. But I think the brand will survive if they cut back on the less popular models. I think everyone has been impacted by COVID-19.

The alliance between Renault and Nissan seems to have taken the worst traits of each partner and blended them into a range of troublesome, uninspiring, bland cars.

Look at the Micra, once the byword for indestructibility, it was turned into a timing chain destroying embarrassment.
Ironic that traditionally easy to work on Nissans that hardly ever needed working on were changed into needlessly awkward heaps without any Gallic design flair to compensate.

Renault deserves to die, the world does not need their nasty, bland, unreliable product.

I’m sensing you don’t rate their product much.

Mercedes aren't the leaders in build quality they once were, selling badge engineered Renaults hasn't improved their statistics a jot.

I know three people who drive B class Mercedes and two have had electrical problems that whilst seemingly simple have cost a fortune to fix, the other has paint lacquer problems.

Even when trying to make a premium product they missed the target, ie Infiniti, nasty harsh cars that are no longer sold here.

I will concede that the Trafic though the old ones were shocking, seems to be way better lately and far more reliable than Ford Tourneo/Transit, so miracles can occur.

The wife has had two Renault's over the years, cheapest motoring we have had. Economical and reliable which is all she and alot of motorists want. Can't say the same for the Fiat and VW bought for the same role.

Surely Renault is the perfect addition to PSA’s woeful portfolio?

To be honest, the last time I saw a "normal" (ie. non-RS) Megane in the UK I reckon Tony Blair was still Prime Minister.

It’s sad. You are bang on about losing the best parts of both brands. Old Renault were pretty charming things and the older Nissans were tough.

The French gov poured money into Renault in the days of state ownership at levels that made the UK gov's support to British Leyland look pathetic. I'd expect them to do it again today, but things are different in two ways. One is the Euro and difficulties that it causes with government debt. The other is the current tendency to hold cars as entirely responsible for all our environmental problems.

Styling by Nissan, Engineering by Renault. Agree that something went badly wrong here.

And yet not all is doom and gloom. the Leaf et al seems to have some commercial value.

Hope we don't just get the big 3 German brands. that would be soul destroying.....

My local grease-monkey garage man is always smiling when he sees me go in, but he visibly changes when he realises I'm there with the daughter's Clio - they really don't want to work on it!

Sadly Renault seems to have taken Nissan with them.

Current Nissans seem little more than rebadged Renaults.

Red Nissan Micras are becoming a rare Sight by the day. Surely a bad sign for the brand

Besides the Renault Sport side of things, I've never been a massive fan of french vehicles, but it's always a shame to see manufacturers struggling.

Hope things work out for them.
