This is a side note from the speed limiter thread.
"The AA said measures would be required to ensure drink-drivers are unable to purchase or drive cars without breathalyser kits fitted as standard."

The obvious question is how will the company selling the cars, new or used, know if you are a convicted drunk driver? Will you now have to undergo a drivers license, background or court record check, and how will it be applied to private sales?
There's an old Chinese curse.

I would think most sellers will want to see your drivers licence before you take a test drive?

"The car can be automatically slowed down if it exceeds the limit, although the driver can override the system by pushing harder on the accelerator.
If speeding persists, the car will sound an alert – similar to the noise when a driver is not wearing a seatbelt."

My god, measures that severe are going to practically wipe out drunk driving overnight...I mean - press the pedal harder , and a fkING BUZZER!!! WOW!!!

Also I can see no way for convicted drink-driver person to buy a car without having to produce their licence....other than getting their mum or wife or best mate to buy it of course but who on earth is going to go to THAT much trouble?

Does anyone who makes legislation actually ever stop to even try and think it through at any point?

Which would mean that either the license would have the words "Convicted drunk driver, do not sell this person a car" printed on it, or there is a publicly accessible government database where a seller can check.
Not going to be well received by privacy advocates.
