They should ban a lot of private cars around parts of London and just allow transport and commercial stuff like deliverys
Agreed. For some reason central london seems to have a high proportion of preening idiots with issues. Seven Dials for example. Porsche Boxster Driver. Top down (no problem there) but spoiler up (ruining the lines of the boot and marking him down as a bit of an idiot). Instead of just driving it he decided that everyone should see and hear him so revved the 4 pot engine every few seconds. Turns onto Shaftesbury Avenue and guns it...for the 150 ft he could before hitting traffic.
Car sounded crap and he came across as a try hard throbber. Much better was the 992 C4S driver with his makeup clad trophy in the passenger seat. Didn't over rev the car and it just gurgled along without drawing attention to himself. Although, tbh if I had just bought a 992 c4s I wouldn't want to draw attention to how ugly that rear end is either.
It wasn't just Porsche - BMW and Audi throbbers seemed to be in abundance.
Throw in the visitors who bring there cars from abroad to impress people as they park on double yellows and the other try hard midgets driving Lambo's, Ferrari's etc then the case to ban cars from the centre seems pretty strong.

That is really very much needed. Finally they looked at it and took this decision. The scenario outside the Royal Parks London is very much compact and anyhow it impacts the beauty of that park.
mumsnet --->The consultation should be on paving over the parks to make room for more cars

And taxis and trucks and buses and diesel trains, all of which are far more noxious than private cars. Mark my word, they will get to the point where people say ‘fk this’ and vote with their feet.In fairness I am not a Londoner, so I have no idea what banning cars from Royal Parks entails, but my comments apply equally to city centres and other places where this kind of thing is being contemplated.
I don't think parks are a place for cars, but neither do I think that they are a place for the great unwashed to take their dogs to piss and crap, and in my experience of parks that is a far bigger problem. Wait till we get a typhus or cholera outbreak due to this disgusting practice.

How would older dog walking people get to the more remote parts of Richmond Park ....... or in fact anyone who might not be so spritely but loves the park.
You can get to very close to any of the gates by bus. You're not allowed to park anywhere other than on the perimeter (pens ponds possible exception, buts its still close to the edge)- (unless you are disabled, I think then you can use the one nearer the middle) so it shouldn't be a huge issue.madala said:

Who wants them there, shoot the dogs and solve the problem. They are just a massive health hazard. Parks should be for people. madala said:

They lay on free minibuses already for part of the year, so imagine they will increase it to year round. Besides why do you want to go to the remote parts? It's full of Lyme disease and undisturbed areas that are happy to be undisturbed. And as above, dogs (or rather the owners stupidity) are a pain in the ass for walkers, runners and cyclists. Ban them!!
Or make them pass an etiquette and knowldget test.

Good. Sick of going to Richmond Park to find its just tossers cutting through or driving round it like its longleat.
Hello Lycra cyclist Are you one of the ones who obeys the speed limits or the one who overtakes cars going at the 20mph limit on the downhills coz Strava.
A reduction in traffic though would be welcome, but remember they are not 'cutting through' they are going to a destination.

How about we actually read the full article before wringing our hands? (nice, aged version of the standard "won't somebody think of the children" by the way)article said:
In its Movement Strategy discussion paper, The Royal Parks charity says that the park roads are there for the benefit of visitors as opposed to commuters, adding that the through-movement of motor vehicles within the parks will be discouraged over time.
Banning elderly dog walkers doesn't SEEM to be on the agenda. Also, remember this is merely a proposal. There's a long, long way to go before anything can be implemented.

You really are a miserable bd, aren't you?
Having read some of your other crap today, are you a Freeman of the Land?
I'm saying Parks should be for people, not a dogs' toilet. They are going to ban cars, why not ban dogs? What do you disagree with?
