That sounds fantastic. Especially by increasing freight train routes and allowing lorries to stay on the chunnel until they are outside the south-east. A lot beet for those having to travel and and around the M25 too. Currently anyone living in South-east has to get up to the M25 to head west unless they want a very long journey

I think its a great idea too.....but the best thing to do would be to build as much of it underground as possible in order to have the least (long term) environmental impact Whilst Im sure that it would be very expensive, in 20 years, the money spent will be irrelevant, but the effect would still be there. and it would be cool to drive in huge long tunnels a lot!

Surely what we really need is a huge hot cross bun? across London? One m-way going East West, one Norf Sarf, with no getting off in town. going underground would be perfect? but not possible I guess?

Tunnels = great idea. On news last night they were talking about the crossrail project which will link east-west of london better and will mostly be underground. I think since the channel tunnel the process must be a lot cheaper now as they are looking at a lot of underground schemes these days May be they should extend the M1 underground to meet the M23!!

That would be top banana! I used to live close to heathrow, and work in the city, getting in to town by road was OK, but by train was cr*p Now I live near Gatwick (no, I dont have a fetish for planes!) and getting into town by train is great, but by road is cr*p, boo. I hate having to drive miles and miles around the M25 to get to the M1/40/11, it would be so much easier to bypass London without letting people get off in London. I am sure most M25 traffic doesn't go near London, it wants to get round it! Come on government! get on it!!
