Letting the authorities fine electricity boards etc is all well and good, but who is goint to fine the authorities for the appauling state THEY let roads get into. On the way back from Silverstone on Sunday, I encountered what looked like an open cast mine in the road, and several regular routes I take are littered with sizeable holes, none of which are caused by the utility companies time to sell the Griff and get a Landrover!!

It wouldn’t be so bad if you could send the bill from the tyre centre for getting your tracking re-checked to your local council after driving over the several lunar craters that we all find in the roads. And we have to pay (road tax) for this privilege?!!! B@*#**DS!!, rant, rant, kick the cat, get another beer from the fridge...

i believe you can actually sue for damage, and taking digital pics etc can help. i know someone who came off his bike in a pot hole and sued local council. not suprisingly they filled the hole the day after he crashed! then denied any knowledge! he won in the end.

Its true you can claim from the council. A friend of mine knackered the rim on an alloy and successfully got the money back from the council. The only problem is he spent about a week on the phone or writing letters. So it depends on whether you can (or are willing) to spend the time battling the bureaucracy and fob offs, they made every possible excuse before eventually backing down and coughing up.

I'm still after a local council for damage on a speed hump. I also mentioned various potholes on alternative routes but they ignored that bit. My insurance company has paid up but after endless calls are still on the case with the council. As of last week the file has gone to 'splits' - split liability!! Did the photos, even offered to give them a demo to prove how uneven it was but they declined!

They can't fill the holes as all the spare tarmac is used as exhuast extracters and sump plug dis-placers (humps)
