Rover 25 1.4 Problem!

I need some opinions on a problem that i have with my 25. Coming home from work an evening last week, went to overtake another car, put my foot down and there wasn't any power, engine cuts out and i'm left on the hard shoulder. Managed to get it restarted and went to pull off, stalls straight away and never restarted. Recovery guy thinks the fuel pump has gone and its sat on the drive ever since. Can anyone shed any light on what it may be? Thanks!

Can you hear the fuel pump prime the Fuel System when switching on the ignition BEFORE operating the starter? A quiet whine noise from the rear of the car for 2-3 seconds.

From what you describe, could be a hundred things from a loose connection, out of fuel, blocked fuel filter to a blocked exhaust following Cat break up, or, none of the above.

After posting on MG-Rover.org R25 Forum, make a list of all likely suspects and systematically check through the list. The reason is out there, trick is finding it.
