Just bought one and am looking for information about the cars in general.

Were they ever raced?

Was there a "performance" version or was it all MG Montego this and MG Maestro that?

Is the car considered a classic yet?

What's the difference between a 213 and 213S? All I can tell is the S has a longer 5th gear and a rev' counter.

What should I do with the car? She's a low mileage three owner from new car that I have bought to get me through the double dip recession. Is the car's worth looking after as a future classic, modify, modernize or prepare for track use?

I'll post some photo's up tomorrow as it's too dark now.

Feel free to post honnest opinions and thank you in advance for any information. All the best Rob. smile

Answered one of my questions myself. The car is a classic by virtue of there being hardly any left and at least half a dozen people saying I haven't seen one of those in years.

Here in all its glory....

There was a Rover 'Vitesse' version but I think it was more cosmetic than actually tuned like the MG's. The Vitesse wheels were nice - if you can find some.

Dammed reliable Honda engine I was hoping to use my Rover as an excuse for a snow day but she started first turn of the key and the narrow tyres cut my way to work better than a lot of modern stuff that was slipping about and finding the verges. wink

Stupid reliable, Honda engined car, getting me to work ten minute early while everyone else is two hours late because it's -12'C. wink

Had a "Rover" moment this morning the car refused to start. Turning over just fine and the smell of petrol meant it wasn't fuel delivery. Spare plug to find no spark at all. Hmmmmm, pulled the plugs; they were all fine. Checked the HT leads; again all good. 12.3V across the terminals of the coil pack; so dizzy cap off a bit of carbon in there so a quick clean and replace. Still no spark. 5:50AM on a Sunday morning so I can't ask anyone (and expect to talk to them ever again). So re-check everything. This time when I get to the coil pack it still had 12.3V going across it; until I turned the starter motor. Then it dropped to 0.0V! What the censored?

Here's the cause of my being an hour late for work.....

"Sparkrite"? No spark at all while the bloody thing was connected. Grrrrr!

It was the first time I've had a car fail to start in years and it was good to get back to basics and trouble shooting, but it couldn't have happened on any of my days off could it? rolleyes

New pads, shoes, filters and bits ready for a new M.O.T next month. smile

Took the car to Hunstanton to drop a few things off and a desertet beach resort made the car look right at home. hehe

'tis the season. New old stock is brilliant. There are people with Rove bits in sheds all over the country. Brake shoes from Spalding, air filter from Kent and new superbright H4's from China. Ah oh well you get the idea.

The air filter took 43 seconds, the bulbs three minutes and the shoes will go on later. The Festive Family Taxi is on the meter again. Still the engine will be nice and warm when I get back so I can change the oil and filter when I get back. smile

So I'm a lazy sod for not fitting new shoes in the snow yesterday. Paid the price today.

On the car park leaving work tonight I hear a clunk and the drivers side rear wheel locks up. Luckilly I was going about 5mph at the time and I thought the cable had frozen. So I put the car in reverse and "clunk" the car was fine. Went forard again and the wheel locked again. Bugger I've got something in the drum. So use the jack for the first time ever and get the wheel off. Pop the drum off to find this.....

...and these fell to the ground.

Gulp! Lucky it was the car park and not the bypass eh? I'm off to buy a lotto ticket.

So when it starts first time at -12 it's a Honda and when it fails to start it's a Rover?
