My son has fitted both the 1.8 and the 1.8 VVC K-series engines to his Rover Metro ~ which we bought new back in 1993 when it had the 1.1K series with the SU carb. Obviously, brakes, wheels and suspension have been uprated to cope and the car is a hoot to drive ... extremely nippy. Provided they have been well maintained, reliability has not been a problem with any of the several 1.8 K-Series MGs and Rovers in the family.Pose your question over on Metropower [ metropower.org.uk ] where a wide range of owners have modified their Metros and you can find all you really need to know there. If you wish to lower your car ( "slam" in Chav parlance ) please do not do it by draining some of the fluid from the suspension as some young plonker did locally to his modified Metro/100.... ... These cars can be lowered properly .. and safely.
hi, ive done the same conversion as you,
best stright fit brakes you can get are from a metro gti there bolt stright on and you can get a good selection of discs and pads for them. gti brakes are also the same as mgf front brakes if it easier to find one of them! you must also use gti alloy wheels as the calipers wont fit under any other standard wheels with spacers
other options are rover 200 brakes you have to get some brackets made up to make them fit tho and use atleast 14inch wheels
you can also get mgf trophy brakes but you need atleast 15inch wheels to fit them
