As above, my old mans Rover 75 has been using a lot of fuel lately. The car seems to run fine and its only lately that this problem has arisen. Possible sensors?

TIA,

James

A 1.8 75 manual should give a steady 28 to 32 mpg in mixed/suburban use, but wintery weather will pull this down to perhaps 24mpg. The automatic version will retrun least 2 to 3 mpg heavier consumption.

If it doing much worse than this it it needs looked at --- if the plugs have done more than 30,000 miles change them it might also be an idea to get the fault codes and live data read with a fault code reader as it could be a duff coolant temperature sensor (the coolant temperature sensor is a relatively cheap part).
