i recently brought a rover metro (N reg) that has been fitted with a 1.4 16v engine out of a rover 400. I was told that it drove fine and there was nothing wrong with it and because it had no tax or MOT i couldn't test drive it. When i went to drive it to the garage to get it MOTd it wouldnt drive properly. At a standstill the engine revs freely but with a slight miss fire but when i tried to drive it up the street it wouldnt rev at all, it just stutters along with no power. i was hoping that by putting it through an MOT i could see what work was needed but now i cant get it to the garage for this to be done.
Any help with this greatly appreciated

Could be many things ~ if not already there, check in to Rovertech.net and ask your questions. There's a wider wealth of K-Series knowledge than on PH ~ other rover sites could also be useful.
Could be something simple. Lets hope so. In your position, I'd make a list of what could cause the poor performance ~ anything from a very dirty Air Filter or throttle body, to something more serious. Then check through the list one by one until the problem is identified. No need to spend money until the problem is correctly IDed.

ive managed to sort this problem out now.
seems the person who i brought the car off decided to "attach" the exhaust to the hanger by the flexi pipe using some wire, an this was so tight that the exhaust/engine had no room available for movement under strain an ive been told this could cause the problem an since ive put the exhaust on properly with rubbers it now seems fine.
thanks everyone for all the help though
hopefully should be on the road later this week or early next week provided the MOT goes ok
