Hi everybody, first time of visiting your site. My son is looking to change his car and we have been offered an 03 45 diesel. I understand there are 3 trim options and 2 engine options. My questions are
1, How do I establish engine rating
2, As above but for trim level
3, Any areas to look out for apart from the obvious
4, An approx value for car. It has done 70,000 and has new MOT and appears in photos to be quite straight. We hope to view next weekend.

Thanking you all in advance

Charlie

I believe that car will have the Rover L-Series Diesel engine fitted. These are good for well in excess of 200,000 miles provided they are serviced regularly and well maintained. This engine has an unburstable quality.

I have no experience of the Rover 45 Diesel although I do have a petrol MG ZS which is a sportier version of that car. That car is a delight to drive. There are numerous owners of L-Series Rover 45 and MG ZS Diesels over on MG-Rover.org ~ post a similar query on that site for wider readership and response. Honda put this Rover Diesel engine in their mid-1990s Accord which shared the same platform as the R600.

I have a Rover 600 Diesel fitted with this same engine and it has well over 120,000 on the clock. Still drives like new and gives around 40 mpg ~ rather more if I do not floor it all the time. Can be cruised at three figures when circumstances allow.

Good luck.
