Another ebay description ~ the engine is so good, it must be a Honda ~ no way a Rover ~ everybody knows that ...smile

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Ignorance is Bliss ... wink

No way would Soichiro Honda's Motor company allow another manufacturer to write R O V E R in dirty great letters all acraust one of their power units....rolleyes

Yes, this Rover/Honda engine ignorance is widespread.

Have a look at this nice R600 Diesel on PH..

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/998923.htm

Apparently that has a Honda engine >>>biggrin..

" Excellent Honda engine "

In fact, I believe that the Honda Accord Diesel which shared the same platform as the R600s, actually had the Rover engine... smile .... rolleyes

Edit to add:

Here's picture of the engine in my R600 Diesel ~ note R O V E R across the top of the engine.

The Honda Motor Company of Japan would NEVER allow any other manufacturer to put their name on a Honda engine. The engines Honda supplied to Rover during their partnership did not have the Honda name on them either.

"Yes John... but, it must be a Honda engine ~ it's so good "

Heard that more than once or twice ...rolleyesrolleyes

Same old rubbish isn't it John! L series indeed was used in the Accords of that era and YES! It is a Rover engine and shares its roots with the T and therefore also the O series.

Those D series Honda units used in the older 216/416 didn't even have Rover written on them and certainly not "Honda" - can you imagine it!?

You know I'd never noticed that before, it really doesn't say Honda on it!

Wasn't Honda's first ever diesel engine introduced fairly recently into the last generation Accord i.e. definitely not in the version that was the cousin of the Rover 600.

I'm sure I also heard somewhere that Honda are planning to drop diesels again... scratchchin

As is BMW/Rover ignorance too.

eg people who think the landrover TD5 is a BMW engine
and people who believe BMW solely developed the mini
