My little brother has a MG ZR with the 1.4 K-series lump in it, unfortunately it's suffered a major top end engine failure! Diagnosis is to stuck a new lump in. frown

We've got the kit and the expertise on hand (family friend) to get it changed over, but when he started calling around breakers for a new lump, he was told by one guy that he HAD to have the 1.4 K series from an MG ZR, it was not possible to fit the K series from a rover 25. Something to do with a gearbox coupling or something? confused

Now, the 25 engines seem much more plentiful and therefore cheaper to get hold of. Anyone know if this is true, or just some bloke trying to flog his MG engine over a rover 25 one?

Try here in the 25/ZR section:

I thought it was the same engine, but I could be wrong. (Make sure it's a 103ps engine and not the 84ps one if you're looking at 25s.)

I thought it was the same engine too. Worth googling re K series engines. If you do decide to go the secondhand route be careful. These engines were quick but you really need to check the coolant levels rather more than regularly. Coolant capacity was negligable on them and they went with amazing regularity. Story too long to recount here though but there was a group that was busy trying to sue MGR before they went under.

Yes it is the same engine. HGF is common if the car is overheated only.

If you do get a 84ps engine its not a big problem as the only reason it is 84ps and not 103ps is because the throttle butterfly dosnt open fully.
