Rover 75 / MG ZT bonnet release cable snapped!

I received this email this morning from my father:

"Went to move MG, battery flat, so was going to open bonnet, but cable broke/stretched too much. Need to get bonnet open, and get new cable!"

Would any of you clever chaps know how to open the bonnet with a snapped cable. It would be of great help.
