Bl**dy rover immobiliser removal?
Discussion
Against my better judgement my better half decided to buy a rover 214 (bubble shape) without immobiliser fobs............Or immobiliser card!!!
Well it's been fine for a year proving me wrong every time I see it's grinning purple face (the car not the girlfriend) but today I was vindicated and the purple B***ard Wouldn't start twice, once in petrol station till the door was locked and then unlocked and then outside the DVLA when it wouldn't start for about 15 mins.
Firstly I am not 100% certain it isn't the starter solenoid, but until it does it again in a place I can try to bump it off I won't know, but my suspicion lies quite strongly with the immobiliser, my question is is it possible to remove it, I'm quite genned up on alarm and immobiliser removal and vehicle electronics (and restore classic MG's as a job so mechanics not an issue) but the difficulty here is that unlike most cars of this era (96) instead of it being an aftermarket system fitted at import centre which is simple to remove it is integral to the ecu system. But someone must have found a way around it, I can't believe no Rover has ever been pinched without the keys?
Help!

Other way round with my 2002 45 TDi Impression - couple of times I've accidentally leaned on the door locking button while getting in the car, then when I turn the key there is the Parp Parp of the (very loud) car horns in one ear and the other half shouting "What have you done" in the other ear while I frantically fiddle with the fob, locking and unlocking it to shut the noise off. Other than that, no problems in 18 months of ownership of this great commuting car. Shame Rover inherited the bad reputation from the early days when the horrors came out of the factories, eg Marinas etc. I know - I was there. The latter day Rovers are streets ahead of the older ones for build quality, and I'm sorry I didn't take many a missed opportunity to grab a bargain when they went t*ts up. Mine is in excellent nick, with not the slightest sign of rust anywhere and the L Series engine is like new even at 106+k.
Good luck with removing the immobiliser anyone, but surely it is better to have it on and working?
Pete
