I am beginning to look at a 75 diesel as a daily runner.
Is there anything to look out for?
Does the engine have a cambelt or chain?
My mileage is relatively low (have a Z4 for fun), is a 75 diesel with 125k miles a safe option for 3+ years?
What are they like to drive? - better than 1.8 or 2.0V6 petrol?

Any other advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The diesel is a BMW lump - so that should make it OK. Everything else on the car is pretty reliable. My ZT 190 (V6) is coming up 93k and feels as fresh as a daisy.

Don't get the 1.8 as they're prone to over-heating and cylinder head gasket failure. Don't get the 2.0 V6 either as they're quite thirsty. The 2.5 V6 is a nice engine but the diesel is the best compromise on performance/economy.

Thanks guys for your advice. In the end I got frustrated tracking down the few diesel tourers within budget (under £4k) and came across a local 2002 Mondeo Ghia that seemed in very good nick and was well priced.

Your feedback was much appreciated.
