Missfire in a 25 1.4
Discussion
hey guys. Im in need of sum help. My rover 25 1.4 has a missfire. Dont know whats causing it. Ive changed the leads and spark plugs for new sets, its had a full service amongst other things and this cured the problem for about a week. Now the missfire is back and as bad as it was before. Im a little lost now. i dont know all that much about the mechanicals so anyone have any ideas? The car has an induction kit which has been on since the start of summer or there abouts but otherwise is completely standard. Im getting pretty fed up with it now as its getting to the point where i cant apply any pressure to the accelerator because the missfire gets worse. Anyone else had this problem in the cold temperatures? doesnt happen when the car is warm so much. I would have thought that new leads would have stopped any arching so i dont know wot else it could be. Cheers for any help and advice.
Have you tried running the engine in the dark and looking for any signs of shorting?
My initial reaction was to think coil, distributor cap or rotor arm, probably in that order.
You might find other ideas here: http://forums.mg-rover.org/forumdisplay.php?f=101
