ROVER SD1 2000 Clutch lever arm
Discussion
Its a bit of a long shot but I thought I would ask here...
I've been running a thread for ages on the MG section of this forum trying to find some help from gassing members with my engine swap in my MG B.
I'm keeping the engine in the family, replacing the B series with a 2.0 litre O1 series (which was used in the early SD1's). I would love to use the 2300cc engine but I can't find one for love nor money, but thats a different story entirely..
I found a healthy rebuilt O1 series engine (rebuilt 14 years ago) with a LT77 box and I have just finished a rebuild/inspection. The rebuilt engine I bought was reportedly only ever been run for 5 mins, and I can tell as I can still see the honing marks on the bores.
Long story short...I've been trying to fit this 2.0l O series to a B gearbox. I know that Sherpa vans have done this succesfully with 1.7l and also later with the same 2.0l O series from the SD1.
With the 2.0l O series I've got the more modern finger type of clutch. This requires a roller bearing to operate it. The earlier 1.7l O from the sherpa had a huge and weird looking clutch
Does anyone have a contact who has a sherpa van or SD1 connected to a B box and if you have, how do you mate it up? I've bought a sherpa clutch but its to big and fouls on the B casting for the clutch release arm (I have a brand new sherpa clutch for sale now, and also a SD1 2.0 02 efi engine to come to think of it) so again if anyone can help point me in the right direction to make this work it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Right, a couple of points. The SD1 2l O series was never efi, only twin SU, so I'm tempted to suggest your spare engine is from a later car. Also I've just got rid of an SD1 2l bellhousing and associated paraphernalia to a mate who i want to do something similar to you.
The release arm is common to all SD1 models, however the pivot ball is model specific but should (if you're lucky) still be bolted into the O series to LT77 bellhousing. Likewise the release bearing is common to all non V8 SD1 models. If you want to buy new try Rimmer Bros, second hand there is a bloke on eBay with the login of room05. He's based in Warrington and the chances are he'll have the bits you need to complete the project.

Your quite correct, I bought the O1 efi from a meastro engine.
Thanks for the contact, I'll go hunting tonight and see what I can find. I didn't appreciate that the release arm was a common feature - does that include the roller clutch release bearing? Do you know whether this would be transferrable to the B box? Could I get in touch with your friend he may also be able to help me out with photo's etc if he's further on than me.
I appreciate that O to LT77 is quite easy, O to B is also simple if you have the correct parts...only thing holding me back is the release arm now to fit the B box...
Thanks again
