ARRRGH! gearbox disaster!
Discussion
Well, it could be a disaster, i surpose.
Was in a spar shop carpark, selected reverse, Pulled out of the space no problem. went to select first, and the stick was stuck in reverse. Managed to yank it into a forward gear, and got it back to my place (only 200 mtrs away), but its a pig to move the stick at all, never mind select a gear.
Tis a Rover SD1 V8, with what i assume is the LT77 5 speed box (definatly 5sp anyway)
Does this sound like a dead gearbox? Would a gearbox losing all its oil cause this? (havent checked it, not got a pair of axel stands and bugger going under it on a jack)
Anyone got an idea on howmuch a Recon box would be, fitted? Anyone recommend a blokey in the Local (Wallingford/Oxford/reading) area?
All (sensible) suggestions gratefully recieved

If you have the stick its self some real force then you could have bent the gear linkages (or selector rods). Get under the car and have a look if any are bent or have popped off.
Yes lack of gearbox oil would also completely cause what you are describing.. is it high on impossible to move it in to ANY gear?

Managed to find a garage to take a look at it today.
He's just rang me back to say "Massive oil leak, and gaskets popped off, neither of which should affect the box like this."
He's gonna talk to his Transmission guy, but its not looking good....
Yeah, the shift is tough to move, especially when trying to take it out of gear. Also, apparently the clutch is ok (it bites at about 2/3rds of the clutch pedal)
