400 Diesel starting problem

Hiya

Have changed the head gasket on a rover 400 diesel for a mate and now the b*&^y thing won't start.

With the ignition on the injector pump makes a buzzing noise; is this normal?

I've re-synched the imobiliser fob and when trying to start get a lot of smoke in the garage, so I think there is fuel getting through.

I'm 99% sure all the timing is ok!! Would it matter it the injector pump timing is one tooth out?

I'm no diesel tech, but would say that 1 tooth out on one of these would mean it no worky.
What about the glowplugs? are they working at all?

Thanks for the reply. Seems I just hadn't bled the fuel system properly, git of a job! Also hampered by flattening the battery. Anyway, eventually bled the air out and now running sweetly.
