Hi all, can anyone help me? when setting the ignition timing with a strobe light do you clip the ht lead onto no:1 cylinder? or is it no:2 as someone else has told me?

That said, the marks are normally way out, just keep advancing the ignition until it pinks under load and then back it off a touch.

You can start with 8 degrees for V8 or 10 degrees static for 6-cylinder engines. But as mentioned before working with pinking and advance until it doesn't is also a method. Even better is setting it at higher revs without pinking (like 28 degrees for the V8).

And can confirm it is always cylinder number one.
