A friend of mine has a Rover 220 Coupe which has a problem with accelerating in a number of gears.

Sporadically, when he puts his foot on the accelerator there is nothing there, the engine tries to rev, but wont. However, if he keeps the revs high when at standstill, then it goes OK.

He has changed the HT leads, and has tried resetting the throttle body by depressing the throttle a certain amount of times when ignition on but engine not running.

Also, sparks were checked a little while ago and spaced properly.

Does anyone have any other thoughts on what this could be??

Thanks in advance

Ages ago I had a Tomcat (Turbo) and the wife had a non turbo 220 Coupe and hers kept cutting and doing wierd stuff. After a year of loads of people looking at it A tuning company said "that'll be the throttle potentiometer", we changed it and the car ran perfectly ever after.

Give it a go as they are cheap and easy to change.

Any luck on this?

Also check the Lambda sensor, highly possible that could be causing you jip.
