Tom Walkinshaw Rover ?
Discussion
Hi, reading with interest all articles as I used to have an SD1, however I would like to know a bit about a twin plenum vitesse from 20 odd years ago. A friend of mine had one which he said was a rarity because it was a Tom Walkinshaw special ? Being quite ignorant on this, did Tom Walkinshaw tune a road going Vitesse ? What was so special ?It was quite fast as I remember. Cheers.
The twin plenum Rover SD1's were produced to satisfy the touring car regs of the time, they had to make 200 cars to qualify, I think for Group A?.
They didn't produce any more power as supplied but had greater 'potential'.
TWR were racing them at the time but the revised injection system was developed by Lotus I believe.
The main difference was the injection system, the engine, gearbox etc were standard Vitesse I believe.
