Hi all, I've recently bought a V8SD1. While i'm happy overall with the car, its got one niggling habit. From start it idles at around 600rpm quite happily, but when i press the throttle down and then release it, the engine continues to run at around 1500rpm. If i lift the throttle pedal up with my foot, it eventually drops back down to 600 rpm.

Not to sure about carb'd engines (this is my first carburettor for about 9 years) but does this sound like a sticky cable or something? also, i dont know if its relevant, but the engine has been replaced with an edelbrock carb and air filter kit.

If it is a throttle cable, howmuch of a pain is it to adjust/replace? is it something a cack handed knuckledragger like meself can do at home?

Sounds like the throttle cable needs either lubed ..or needs adjusted...is it overly slack or too tight..should be a simple nut & bolt arrangement where the cable meets the carb linkage...sounds like a wee tinker will sort it out...nice to see another SD1 on the forums..thumbup

Well, i had a fiddle with the cable, and it seems to have sorted it self out for now, but i doused it in OX-24 just for good measure. Tah for the help!

Well, it seemed to be sorted. up until i over took a truck on the M6tollroad. Came off the gas to change gear, and suddenly started bouncing of the redline. Sounded great from the exhaust, but a bit unexpected all the same.....Oh well, where do i get new cables from? is rimmer bros the best bet?

I had a stuck throttle years ago just coming onto the motorway in a 2.8i Capri...interesting....hehe...Managed to `drive it` back off using a fuel pump cut out switch I had on the dash...phew...
The spares for SD1`s now are excellent....
