rover 75 surging power
Discussion
The air metering unit is notorious on these (bmw) engines. You can disconnect it and see if it picks up again (it should, and will confirm that it is this part). Has the rover (cdti 133php) as a company car and the temporary fix until the part was available is to disconnect.... Made a huge difference, as it felt like having a working engine again. Replacement is not cheap, and you don't know how long it will last. Leaving it disconnected should not be an issue with this particular diesel engine (other diesels it could be a problem), and many drive with it disconnected. Don't know what will happen during mot-time ....

maf is the same as afm (air flow meter), and does the same as a air mass metering unit: just different names for the same thing to provide an ECU information of the amount of air entering the engine.
Location of maf: Standing in front of the car, opening the bonnet, the connector and the metering unit is hidden, at the left hand side, close to the scuttle, under the large cover. You need to take the cover off to be able to disconnect it.
