Well, I've managed to break something in the drivetrain. Symptom was a bang followed by a rumbling noise and a lack of drive. I can however, still move the car at walking pace, although accompanied by slight rumblings from the rear.

If it was the propshaft then I'd get no drive at all. So I'm guessing it's something in the rear axle. Hopefully a halfshaft and not the diff? Not a good time for it to happen as the car is entered in the Brighton Speed trials the Saturday after next!

Clutch or diff it sounds like; but I'm no mechanic. All the best

I would have a look at the diff as a first. Although they barely go wrong on standard engines (is yours more powerful than std?) with always enough oil in them, and 'normal' gear changes.

It's definately not the clutch, but it's something in the rear axle. Have ordered a new halfshaft - the last one apparently!

If it is the diff then it could be time for a Quaiffe LSD. driving

It's the diff, planet gears have apparently broken orbit and are currently lying at the bottom of the diff casing.

Am trying to locate a Secondhand axle before the weekend...anyone know who might have one? Rimmer Bros are out of stock.

Have been on the phone to Quaife who can supply an ATB LSD but I've still got to find a specialist to fit it...unlikely before Sat!

Where are you?, as someone has offered me a SD1 locally in Nofolk. Could keep you going for a while. Don't think he wants much for bits as it is going to get scrapped.

Thanks, do you know what model of SD1 it is? The Manual Vitesse and the 2600 Auto have the same axle. Other models are higher or lower geared. I'm in Brighton, but willing to travel!

I'm sure the guy said it was a 2600. It is in Wymondham in Norfolk. Up the A11.
