The best Rover made???
Discussion
The best Rovers have to be the three last P's, the P4, P5 and P6. All three of the cars killed the competition, were built like tanks, and were so advanced for their times. They also represented the best in good taste, and were genuinly world beaters. In their time, the best two manufacturers probably were Rover and Mercedes. BMW were a crappy little company producing rather taudry cars, Jaguar produced nice cars - but no way were they world beaters.
I love the SD1- But its poor initial build quality and its rather non-progressive engineering (live rear axel, rear drums) sets it back.
The 75 is a superb peice of kit - it is a very competent car - and was the car used by Jaguar for the X-type and VW for the new Passat as a bench mark. Sadly, its retro (but beautiful) design always held it back.

Another BRM fan?? I seriously miss mine. Driving a French tinbox doesn't really give the same feeling!
I was expecting more people to pick out the Ps but wasn't expecting the 75 to get a mention (never even looked at one properly). As for the P's, they're before my time, but I can really appreciate them for what they are - good solid cars.
Rover will be missed. Or at least I'll miss them. My brother's got a 220 Coupe and that's a nice piece of kit too - well specced, and you can pick them up for next to no money!

Still get a smile (everyday) when coming back from work and parking the Rover 75 workhorse next to the 1981 SD1. What a sight.
Ok, a TVR (wedge) is standing next to it as well, and that to me is my dream garage scale 1:1.
But a nice P5B would be a nice add-on, as would be a P6 V8S....

Had or driven most classic rovers and and currently own the two best IMO a P5b Saloon (much much better proportioned and prettier than the coupe) and an SD1 TP Vitesse.
Cant pick between the two on one hand the ultimate gentlemans car (the thinking mans roller) and much less spivvy than a Jag and on the other one of the best hooligans cars money can buy.
