MG ZT V6,non runner,should I.......
Discussion
Local car sales place sells on their part-ex's,they have a MG ZT V6 in at the minute,he said it ran when they first got it but now it wont,as I walked away he said make me an offer,I put my fingers in my ears and said la,la,la and carried on walking.
Anything obvious that could cause the non starting.

Hello,
Do a post on www.the75andztclub.co.uk and they probably can help on that, or perhaps even know the car.
More into diesel Rover 75s myself, so take the rest with a pinch of salt: very often it could be a sensor (camshaft, crankshaft, etc) or the fuel system. Sounds not too difficult as it has been a runner (how well did it run?), but you never know.

I will have one some day.Taxed and MOT'd runners are cheap as chips.
If you go on the site above, there's a classified section where you're likely to pick up something half decent for silly money. Some memebers on there also doa free inspection on your behalf if you're miles away from something that interests you.
On these "Petrol" 75/ZTs I believe the BMW design in-tank FUEL FILTER can become 'separated' which means pressure to the fuel injectors is lost. No fuel pressure, no start. I recently got a nice high spec ZT 1.8t non-starter which after some searching of MG-Rover.org, XPower and 75/ZT owners web sites, revealed the "FFS" and "FOC" scenarios. FFS = Fuel Filter Syndrome and FOC = Fabled Orange Clip.
The Fuel Filter housing needs to be separated to fit the internal fuel filter. Few owners ever do that apparently and fuel pressure over the years separates the housing anyway and pressure is released..
After reading up on that, I bought an FOC ( six squid delivered off ebay ) fitted that and immediate start. Mind you, realigning the in-tank fuel filter with a tank full of fuel ( a =/- 'bonus' as the previous owner had just tanked up when it stopped working ) made the job rather more 'fiddly' than if the fuel tank was near empty.
Just did a quick "FFS" search on MG-Rover.org and it came up with this :~
