Hi,
I have a Morgan +4 with the above engine from 1996. Being new to this type of engine, is there any good improvements one can make as well as maintenance advice? I have already fitted a K&N Air Filter but otherwise its standard.

I take it 10/40 Oil is best for it?
Any tuning upgrades or low cost remap's available?
Whats the best way to reduce tappet noise? I understand this is pretty standard on a cold engine. (It even gets a mention in the Morgan handbook)
Is it worth upgrading the HT leads?

Any other advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

I'd run a good quality 10w40 semi-synthetic in a T-series (personal recommendation would Shell Helix HX7 - although I'm sure others will beg to differ), You could run 5w30 grade and I doubt it would make much difference although with noisy tappets I'd stick with 10w40.

Sometimes tappet noise on start up is caused by a faulty O-ring on the oil strainer in the sump allowing air to bypass into the tappets themselves - Nothing I would essentially worry about though unless it was horrendous - as when the oil pressure picks up it removes the air and allows the tappet to fill with oil anyway.

As for performance increase - Is yours a turbo charged version or the naturally aspirated? as the most obvious upgrade is swapping out an NA T series for a turbocharged unit. I'd consider head work if you wallet can stretch to it - having it gas flowed would help a lot.

Good engine the T-series - Personally believe Rover should have developed it further rather than focusing on the K series
