Hi

These rover 75's are so cheap! I think I might just go and buy one. However, budget motoring isn't budget motoring if you have to fix the thing. I've done some googling and understand that V6 K series engines don't suffer from head gasket failure and are infact a very nice engine. Is this true?

Please and thankyou.

My father had a 75 2.0 V6.
Don't get one of those, it's horrendously underpowered (and actually shows worse fuel consumption than the 2.5 V6 as a consequence!)!

I seem to remember that it had at least one HGF during his ownership...

Hello!

I had the 2.5 v6 version of the car.

Very good engine that almost never has HGF. Stories of it having head gasket problems are usually mis-diagnosed coolant loss, which usually comes from a leaky thermostat (common problem, £140 for a garage to fix). Also look for evidence of this being done in the service history.

I had the leaky thermostat, nearly completely ran out of coolant after I bought it. Still didn't blow the head gasket and ran for a year after. Was only killed by a bus crashing into it.

Engine makes a nice noise and some things can be done to get a small increase in power.

Everyone who drove it absolutely loved it, I always got compliments from drivers and passengers about how smooth and comfortable it is, and how well it drives.

Good bargain but don't expect over 32mpg though laugh

Get the 2.5 over the 2.0 v6. More poooooooower and same, if not better mpg.

Hope this helps smile

My 54 ZT 190 suffered HGF, I suspect one of the liner's has slipped or cracked. Nice noise, stty consumption and a useful amount of low down torque for city driving. Think I've averaged around 26-27mpg over 18,000 miles, about 80% of which was cruise control Mway miles.
