MG ZR WONT START - HELP PLEASE

My sons car just wont start. Unlocks fine on the fob, but when the key is turned we just get a DDDDRRRR noise until the doors want to re-lock. Daft thing is we can bump start the engine - any urgent help would be greatly appreciated!!

Battery is weak. Consider both the battery and alternator as culprits.

I agree battery may be flat. You can check the alternator is charging if you get the car running use a multimeter and check the voltage at the battery, should be around 13 volts dc of course. If it isn't the alternator is your culprit, however if it is it's the battery which any motorists discount may be able to check for you. Figure on 30-40 quid for new battery cos it aint worth chancing them. Alternator depends wether you go reconditioned or scrap yard route. Hope that helps....
