Hi ,id like to get any thoughts from older rover owners,,especially the 800 range.Im onto my second rover 800,my first was a G reg 827 saloon, which never let me down in 2 years of driving it,,,,it only had 63k when i got sold it .which i regret doing,I bought a 5 series beemer 525i,(e34) which i liked, but it had constant coolant loss, new rad,,new water pump,,on the verge of head gasket change, when i thought, mmm it doesnt perform like my old rover did!!.So along came my rover 800 sterling with the silky smooth 2.7 V6 honda engine,it just humms under the bonner,,the valve lifters are sometimes noisey when cold, but this noise soon goes as it the oil warms up ,its suprisingly quick ,foot down an its up to 50-60mph in seconds without any fuss at all.Beats any 2.0 mondeo or focus or vauxhall.I think when u move away from 4 cyls to a V6 its quite a differnce.Rover made a 2.5 v6 which fine, but its allways seem to suffer from over heating, gasket failure,,oil leaks from the head etc ,and was never as smooth or reliable as the honda unit.Anyone remember the rover 213-216 in the late eighties to early mineties?? well the 213 was honda,,very very relaible.I had a E reg white 216,,constant engine problems,,choke unit never worked properly,,had a manual conversion an new carb,TDC sensor kept getting bent by engine crankshaft float,so engine woundnt start,( had new float ends fitted an new clutch & flywheel to solve this,,ver expensive at the time). But i really do like the 2.7 sterling..Any thoughts anyone?? regards DAve

Have you seen this thread

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0... SOTW: Rover 825i Sterling

I posted on it, somewhere.

I agree that the Honda V6 was an excellent engine. The 213-216 model you refer to was 80s, not really 80s-90s, that model was the later 214-216 model, the latter being a Honda engine and the former a K-series.

Older Rover owners - are you referring to older owners, or owners of older Rovers smile

hi there,i am refering to owners of older rovers, such as the stering 820,or 827 etc .i have often thought of getting a lot newer car, such as a focus,or mondeo ,or vectra etc,,but that may mean borrowing money,,an for what?? a crap ford 4 cyl engine which does Michael Flattly tappet dancing noisey noise as they get over 50000 miles, and they dont really perform!!,the only ford that performs is the ST range, and they are propped up by a turbo, once that fails,,the engine is flat an powerless.Plus fords allways seem to have clutch judder, where u feel a knock,or vibration as you lift ur foot off the clutch to engage drive, ford deny it,,but ive had a focus,,and mondeo,,both the same, not really fast at all.I like my 2.7 sterling,it may be an old car ,not worth much,,but its quiet, reliable, quick, fast ,never lets me down,,so why go into dept ?? regards Dave
