Hello Folkes!

If you have read my profile, you may have noticed that I once had a 500 CHIMP. It was a truly fantastic car and I think that it's traction was partly to blame for that, however, if, for some unknown reason you wanted to light up that back wheels like a pair of Catherine Wheels on bonfire night, You could!

The Choice of Boots? Bridgestone SO2!!!!

However, I have noticed that quite a few people now are using the TOYO Proxy things and raving about them!

So What is it?

TOYO OR BRIDGESTONE?

Bridgestone replaced the SO2 with the SO3 which didn't get the best reviews from the great unwashed, at around this time TVR started supplying Toyo Proxies as standard fit, hence people will replace Toyos with Toyos.

Some people now like the SO3 tyre, others have managed to find SO2s from somewhere and as I say Toyos are popular as the dealers can get them easily and in the same sizes that TVR fitted as standard (these changed a lot as well)

At the end of the day it is down to you, I hear Toyos are grippier but dont last as long, personally I have SO2s on the rear and SO3s on the front for now, and will probably stick to the Bridgestones as I am used to them and like them and dont want to spend a few hundred quid on Toyos in case I dont like them!

me too.....it seems I have also worn out my front tyres (18000 miles) quicker than the rears on my Tuscan.....

JEEZUS....what is the world coming to !!

read any tyre test, they will all go for Goodyear way before the SO3 or the Proxes. the SO2 was a good tyre but is outdated now.

the SO3 is too hard, the sidewalls are too stiff so the car will crash a bit much. the compund is also a bit hard, not good in the wet and not brilliant in the dry as they don't get proper heat through them.

Toyos are ok, but there are different compounds. be careful if you go for these.

Pirelli P Zeros are probably the best but you may struggle to get them in the right size.

F1 DS G3, probably best compromise for road driving, esp. in wet.

Just coz you mentioned pirellis, we've got PZero neros on the ZS, in 215/35/18 form - they're quite grippy, although not great in "straight line grip" but we've been absolutely appalled by how quickly they've worn - looking at maybe 10k miles on the fronts and 15k on the backs at best.

Might be better on a Tuscan of course, but I certainly won't be buying another set for the ZS if I can help it!

I have been running mine on Toyo's in Spain and they seem to have worn very well including a recent track event. Grip is good and I think I would probably stick with these again.

My Elise murdered P-Zeros at an alarming rate. I'd not go with them again, to be honest. I really liked the Proxes on my Cerb, though (seem to last longer than Bridgestones & cost a whole load less for a start). Looks, as ever, as though everyone has an individual opinion on tyres.
