They are good quality aftermarket shock absorbers (dampers) with the benefit that they are also adjustable. Therefore damping can be set differently to accomodate different tastes, fast road driving and track use etc. As far as TVRs are concerned, Joospeed (Joolz on here) in Chesterfield is the man.

Have a look on www.nitron.co.uk

They are one of the best things you can do to a Tuscan, other than buy it in the first place.

I've been thinking of fitting Nitrons, but are they really noticably better than "Red Rose" jobbies?

The other nice thing about Nitrons is that they can be rebuilt when they wear instead of throwing them away and buying new as you would have to do with standard items

I have nitrons on my Tusc. Don't deliberate, just do it. It makes driving the Tuscan a real pleasure instead of a brown trouser inducing fright fest!

Got them on my Red Rose when the old ones gave up the ghost. They are an improvement on the standard Red Rose setup and the car doesn't seem to jump around so much on bumpy b-roads. They also allow you to alter the front/rear softness independantly to promote understeer/oversteer.

But unless you've got £1200 burning a hole in your pocket then I'd recommend sticking with your standard Red Rose shocks until they start to fail (mine started leaking at 10000 miles!).

A definitive answer would be nice! One poster says that nitrons eliminate the Tuscan's brown trouser moments and for that reason alone £1,200 is money well spent. Then another says don't bother if you've got a Red Rose until the RR dampers are worn out. Which is the truth?

But what if you have the standard Tuscan jobs? Would my X reg be 'much' better off with them?
TVR Centre say 895 +vat + £300 labour

The short answer to that is 'YES' as the orignal dampers and springs would be well past there best & they were not very good to start with. I changed mine after 11K miles and it's one of the biggest improvements you can make to the stability & handling of the car.

I second that. Mine had done about 18k miles on the originals and the improvement was massive.

Nitrons are the single biggest improvement for Cerberas - do a search on the Cerbera forum. Heard from several sources that they produce very good results on other TVRs as well.

Don't bother getting them from normal dealers - speak to Julian Lane at Joospeed and get a set built to your spec for the same price. Money well spent.

I think across all the TVR forums, I´ve only read one negative post about them, and that wasn´t really about the performance. IIRC Joospeed also has a mod to sort out the bumpsteer problem.

What are the symptoms of them failing. And can a leak be fixed?

The originals are not rebuildable so have to be replaced (in pairs) with new ones at about 180 quid a piece.

I'm interested in the reply to this, has anyone put them on a RR spec Tuscan?

Confused, cos my 2002 Tusc handles like a dream. Will I seriously notice the difference (daily driving, not track)I certainly havent experienced any probs even at high speed.

Same here, I can't say I've had problems as such. However I am curious about the staggering improvement that Nitrons are supposed to make.
