Looking for a 2000/2001 tuscan: Help puleeze!
Discussion
Hi,
I've been humming and hawing about getting a tuscan for a year or so and am finally ready to take the plunge.
I'm at the stage of collating as much info about what to look for/problems to check for and expect, etc, etc.
I've joined the yahoo group (great buyers guide), and have started looking on autotrader and here for cars.
My ideal tuscan would be a late 2000/early 2001 RR in reflex purple, portland grey leather, air con & decent stereo (rear speakers , etc)....
Clearly that's being a bit picky though.
My budget is about 25-27K. If car doesn't have warrantly I want to allow 600 quid for a 2 year one (warranty wise quote for absolutely everything covered, including dealer rates).
I'm not looking at doing lots of miles.. 3-5K a year. But would rather have a lowish miler (12-20K) if possible... something that's had it's 18K service.
Talking to people it seems the RR is worth getting for the suspension setup and 18s, rather than the extra 30 horses, so non RR cars with 18s and nitron suspension, etc would be just as acceptable.
What do you think ? Am I doing the right things ?
Being in Ipswich, I have Kerridges on my doorstep, but they don't do many tuscans, and the ones they do are far newer than I can afford.
So far, there seems to be a few out there at the moment:

oops. pressed return there by mistake.
Yeh, I was saying..
There is one on classified from 'Carl'.. a zenith porche blue one... anyone have any info ?
There is a reflex purple one ('Giles').. high milage (23k) and not an RR, though has nice 18s.. again anyone any info ?
Henley have a 2000V, but 29K...and a 2001X RR, but dark interior and interior looks a bit shabby.
Adrian Blyth have a reflex purple..again though, dark interior and not an RR.
There is also a guy in Chelmsford selling his blue RR which does look very nice. He's in states for a few weeks but this is top of my list for viewing when he gets back (if anyone knows him... sorry forgot to get his name!)
I don't want to be driving the length and breadth of the country looking at cars, so I really want to find out as much as possible before I go looking.
I am trying to restrict myself to only considering cars from TVR dealers or real enthusiasts.. if enthusiast, do you think it makes sense to book the car into a local tvr dealer for a quick 1 hour once over also ?
Anyway, if anyone has any background on these or any pointers to other that may be suitable, please reply.
thanks.

I have mine up for sale in the classifieds section of pistonheads.com.
www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=21067&s=2
I have owned it since June last year and it still has 3 months warranty remaining and you can get extra warranty if required. I have personally never had a problem with it and i have to say do not want to sell except for a young addition to the family.
It had the engine rebuilt by TVR in November 2002 and has had all the early problems sorted out.
It runs beautifully and i have to say the picture does not do the colour combination justice.
I know it is my car but can honestly say that it is a beautiful example and would have no hesitation selling it to a friend as i know that it is a well put together Tuscan.

true, AB one looks nice. Then again, it is 28K. A good 3K more than a private one with same mileage. What do I get for the extra 3K... _not_ a 2 year TVR warranty I bet.
Might phone him and find out though.

Hi Stu
The Reflex Purple one has in fact now sold.
Just for future reference:- we include our own comprehensive nationwide warranty that allows you to nominate the repairer and is not administered by some

If you'd like anymore details email me.

I'm going through the same process at the moment, went to look at one at Gatwick TVR, not sure about the colour though. I need under 10k miles but apart from that your spec fits the bill. I'm just sitting and waiting now....
Can't wait that long though ..... I have the need for speed!

I just picked mine up on Saturday.
£24k for a Zenith blue (purpley-blue) 2000 Tuscan RR with 19k on the clock. It had a rebuild 2 years and 12k miles ago, so there's probably a 50/50 chance it'll be needing another one.
I bought it privately at that price for 2 reasons: (1) I've got a separate 3 year warranty with a £2.5k individual claim limit. (2) If the engine goes, that'll probably cost me another £2k on top of the warranty, bringing the total cost of the car up to around £26-27k (including warranty), which is still below/around what I could've got one from a dealer for (with the same RR spec, full leather, nice colour, etc) without resorting to buying that one from "the dealer that shall not be named".

damn you jsg! :-)
I called about that one, and was told someone was on their way with a bankers draft. That'll be you then.
Yeh, did sound good that one must admit.
well, happy driving. I'm still looking.

Sorry about that! I called and got told the same thing about the bankers draft. So I replied "What if I drive down from Derby right now, and pay you for it this very evening?"

The car's great. It needs a few things sorting out - slightly iffy digital readout that needs replacing, a couple of other minor electrical things I'll look into this week, some stone chips I'll probably have sprayed out, needs new front tyres, and it's running a little lumpy. But it was still good for the money, and the warranty should cover any of the actual problems. The upgrade-pipeline is getting quite full, too!

Yep, just a shame that it's not transferrable if the car is sold within the years Warrenty period!

I could be interested have a budget around the £25K mark just started looking, also considering a Griff, are there any used specialists out there who just do or focus on Griffs?
Adrian Blyth, Fernhurst|<a href="http://www.fernhurst-tvr.co.uk">, James Agger, to name but three all like to deal in Griffs ....
Edited to say:

Oh and AB

James seems to be busy with spiders at the moment.
But Fernies have a couple of nice looking cars and, although green is definitely NOT my colour (doesn't go with my handbag or nail polish, dear) the P-reg green Griff is definitely one to see in the flesh
