Hi,

A couple of weeks back I picked my new Tuscan in Moonraker Black. I'm having difficulty keeping it scratch free. The colour is superb and the shine is very high but it comes at a price.

If you've got one painted in this colour can you tell me how you have looked after it, e.g. wax coatings, Armourfend, Easyguard, etc.

Thanks.

Black chipstick from Halfwits That, and accepting the fact that a black car is going to show up the stonechips and not worrying too much about it.

After my first trip to Brunters it came back with the front looking like a star atlas! If you're planning on taking it on trackdays, do a search for Trackshield: it's a latex product you paint on the vulnerable areas of the car and then peel off later.

Mine is Moonraker black as well, and I've got Armourfend fitted, which has helped keep stone chips down on the protected bits.

Unfortunately, I have got quite a few chips on the top of the front bonnet which isn't protected, so will probably get myself a black touch up stick in the near future to sort this out.

Otherwise, I've just used one application of Zymol which was really hard work to apply, but did make the car very shiny, and also makes it easier to clean now.

I ordered one of these spray on glazeguard things before I picked up my Black Griff, was fantasic looking for a few months and really did well with the seagull splatterings, but after a while I could not keep a decent shine to the car without using a polish, the literature with the Permaglaze brochure insisted that you would not need to polish your car ever again, although in my opinion the finish on the car was much better with having both applications, at @ £275, a bargain at that price I was told, loads of polish IMO would probably be just the same?.

Best Regards,

James Sim.

My Tuscan S is in Moonraker Black. I have had most of the armourfend removed as although it will help resist chips when it does (and it will) it peeled. IMHO I don't think it does the cars looks any favours. In terms of polish I like Zymol. I used to use Auto Glym but my preference is for Zymol. I got a small bottle of touch up paint from the dealership which works reasonably well but I'm resigned to the fact that I will have the service bonnet re-sprayed every now and then.

I used to have Moonraker black. I used to use Autoglym and occassionaly used a black coloured wax which was reasonably good at disguising the swirl marks.

make sure you wet the paint work all over with a spray hose before you wash the car,use a dedicated sponge for the paintwork and a different sponge for the wheels making sure that the bucket is also clean of grit, harley davidson do a swirl and scratch treatment for £5.00 which is very good at getting out fine scratches and swirls.

thanks everyone.

I'm a little disappointed at how easy mines is scratching. I take great car over preparation before taking any sponge to it and also use fresh sponges, i.e. if I drop it on the ground it goes in the bin.

Mines is scratching with every wash, I am using a perfectly clean bucket with Autoglym car body wash.

The dealer has already had the car back to the factory for some paint defects so I am wondering if there is an underlying problem with the paint.

It goes in for 1000 miles service today so I will question it then.

I don't mind the odd bit of TLC but I don't want to have to polish out scratches with every wash - seems a little silly.

By the way - when it looks good it really looks good - I love the way the black appears to be like a liquid form just as the sun sets. Fantastic colour choice for the Tuscan - IMHO.

We have a remarkably similar Moonraker black S which we had extensively armourfended.

If you can see the edges I'll be amazed:

My Tuscan is Mystic Black, and my Chimaera before it Moonraker black.

Regarding chips and/or scratches - the fact that you find a scratch every time you wash your car, like it's the process of washing that's doing it, I find very surprising. Any scratches on mine owe to stone chips, or pedestrian carelessness.

I don't ever attempt to fill in any chips with any off the shelf products, as it's particularly difficult getting a finish sympathetic to a metallic black finish - or indeed any metallic finish.

Instead, I leave it until I've got a handful of blemishes and then use a good Chips Away dude to get rid of them. Chips Away is a franchise, so you want to make sure you get a good one, as there are some brow wrinkling stories out there!

I've been using the same C.A person in the South East on my Chim and Tuscan, and the finish is always seamless. And at £40 a scratch (or poa for chips depending on the severity), it's cheaper than respraying the whole front end.

Well the dealer got the car Diamondbrite treated, as recommended by the factory. Not sure its made any difference. The scratches just keep on coming.

Not happy at all.

I would Zymol it but time is a problem for me at the moment.

Does anybody know of a proper mobile detailer in the Lancashire area who would do a proper police and Zymol treat. I'm happy to pay the money if it protects the car.
