Dont want to open the proverbial can of worms, but why is it always the "Tuscan Speed Six" engine that comes in for abuse (not mine I would hasten to add). Is this not the same lump now adorning the latest Cerbs, Tamoras, 350's etc. A lot of posts are whether or not to risk buying a Tusc, but doesnt the same now apply to any of the new models. Why is the Tusc always singled out as if it is unique with probs?
Good point. Perhaps because the Tuscan shape is so distinctive that it attracts more first-time TVR buyers? My insurers said that's why they get more single-vehicle accidents in Tuscans - people not used to the power and handling.
Maybe people who buy T350s etc are a bit more likely to be old hands, and already know the answers to the questions?
Apart from that, no idea

The Tuscan and the Cerb Speed Six tend to come in for a bashing. They were the first to have the Speed Six engine and the ones which failed because of valve gear problems. Generally speaking by the time Tamora and T350 came along engines were sorted or getting there and the problem was clearly associated with the earlier cars.

"Exactly, so why do certain elements refuse to differentiate?"
I agree, it seems unfair that "certain elements" constantly drone on about Tuscan reliability when the speed six engine is fitted to the entire range of cars barring the V8 Cerbs. An old saying "Sh*t sticks" might have something to do with it

Just trying to point out that all pre-2003 Speed Six engined TVRs have suffered from similar engine problems - Flasher, the font of all TVR knowledge is recently converted to this cause - I was just John the Baptist to Flasher's messiah!
If we are now going down the scriptures route with Easter approaching, "Judas" springs to mind, don't get Cross and be prepared to be crucified!!!

Don't be puzzled any longer, Lady Topaz - Flasher is currently single-handedly redressing the balance by condemning both the T350C and Tamora as we speak elsewhere on this very forum.
Jigs, I've generally been one to give you the benefit of the doubt; I have suspected that your humour would be more evident in the flesh than in print. But you're even getting on my tits now, and I'm a V8 fan!!!!

As far as I can see (and I know him reasonably well), Flasher's point is that the Sp6 engine drives like heaven, but if you get a poor one, it gives you hell. I think we all knew this all along. The joys of TVR ownership are greater than the downsides for people with the right temperament. If the pain is greater than the pleasure, buy a Toyota.
There, the Rude guide to decision-making. Easy, innit?

Di,
Yep same old story ain't it....

Alan.
Jigs, I have listened patiently and without any retort to your incessant blathter. Now you have quite clearly broken cover I declare that it is open season on the lesser spotted round brown fish that you are!!!
I suggest that you should spend a little less time in front of playstation and get out more. Move on, find another forum to bore.

I was told by a very reliable source (at the factory) that the purge systems were different between Cerbie Speed Six and Tuscan Speed 6 engines. Also apparently the temperature under the bonnet of the Tuscan is quite a bit higher than that of a cerbie, this could account for the difference in reliability.
When I was at the factory there were 24 Tuscans and 1 Cerbera there for engine rebuild. Also they have sold far more Tuscans than Cerbies which may also acount for the skewed bad press.
As for the T350 I think most of those came out once the 'problems' were resolved. Tamora's I don't know about so I won't speculate as this is a emotive issue!
Just my thought - probably pointless but there we go...
Cheers

Time we had your head on a plate then?
I know this sounds a bit radical but as TVR probably scan this forum isn't it obvious to them by now that if only they made a statement about what happened with the in-line six, what was done to fix the problem and what any buyer can expect from a new one it would do a whole heap of good for the brand, stop the whingers and give newbies like me some ammunition to counter the eye rolling forehead smacking condescention you get from just about VR.
If its not obvious to the factory by now - TVR's reputation is getting a beating because they are saying nowt.
