changing wheels and other questions..
Discussion
Still my ongoing quest to get a tuscan..need some more help from you guys.
1. Changing wheels to 18inchers - much of a palaver?
2. Is the stereo much good and can you do much to upgrade it..ie does it come with rear speakers? Is there room for them if not?
3. Are you lucky Tuscan owners finding many problems with reliability? My griff has been pretty good apart from the occasional expected quibles - I use my car every day and need reassurance that its likely to start(most days)
Thanks once again, I'm almost there, please..just give me a push!
1. The 18" wheels will fit on easy enough, BUT the exhaust is different as their needs to be more clearence for the 18" over the 16", so it is not just a case of swapping the wheels - no idea of the cost, check with a dealer
2. Stereo is OK, depends what you want really, it does everything I want (plays music while I drive) but the standard speakers (in the pillars behind the seats) are somewhat small. Some people have added speakers to the rear panel (as per Chimaera and Griffith) but so far no one seems to have added any front speakers - so - depends what you want from it! I know someone who is looking at Sat Nav for his Tuscan and there seems to be an issue with fitting all the cables in the pod, but not sure what te solution will be, will let you know when I find out...
3. Reliability....well nothing has stopped me driving it yet! Had some leaks from the doors, usual TVR badge paint issues, speedo needle wandering all over the dash (although the digital speedo is fine - dash is currently back at the factory to cure this) and my drivers side door mirror moves around when you start up (new software being fitted this week to cure this)
So in summary, no they are not perfect, but the issues I have had have not stopped me driving it and have been no worse than the teething problems I had with the Chimaera, I just hope once these have been sorted that it will be as reliable as the Chimaera, it is definitely faster and more fun!!
Does this help?

I've got 4 inch mids and tweeters in my front doors on the flat section of panel where it butts up to the dash tray, but it was a close call. The chances of getting them in the new style doors are approx. zero!
Craig, I reckon you'll be alright on the price thing...
Graham: Are you using Rosie as everyday transport or a weekend blaster? We currently use our Chim as an everyday car and do not intend to change it. BUT life is too short not to have the top off so I'm considering changing my sensible car (Pug Coupe 3L etc) for one that's not so sensible. I could go TT/Boxster S or (preferred) Tuscan. Am I as mad as a *** or....yer comments would be welcome....
Rosie is indeed my everyday transport, in fact the Tuscan is my only car, as was the Chimaera before that.
So far I have not had any isues with using a TVR as everyday transport, the boot is plenty big enough, the fuel consumtion isn't too bad (low 20s) and the fun factor more than makes up for any down side
The big problem is costs, the 6,000 mile services come around very quickly (I did 54,000 miles in 2.5 years in the Chimaera) and you get to know the service team very well
What more can I tell you? I love it and enjoy driving it even in traffic, it doesn't suit some people and if you do a lot of long journeys you may find yourself not as fresh at the end as in a repmobile, but this only matters if you have a meeting at the other end, and you can avoid it by going up a day early and taking the scenic route to enjoy the car even more!!

Value for money on the TT is better too.....but it ain't a Tuscan...ah well.

Don, when my Griff got bashed last year I had a TT 225hp for about 6 weeks. Thought it was going to be dull but had great fun in it. Obviously nowhere near the TVR performance but pretty sure footed and very solid. Boxster?? even the S is dull.
