Help required my Tuscan has died
Discussion
Unfortunately i have just gone to start the Tuscan after 6 weeks of no use due to Business, travel, family etc, and it is dead, i can get into the car but there is no power to turn the engine, over can i bump start, any ideas appreciated or do i call my local TVR dealer to come and help. As you can probably gather the mechanics of the car is not my forte. All advice gratefully appreciated.
I seem to remember something in the manual that advised against bump starting the car.
To jump start it you need special leads which have a kind of plug connector on one end and then the usual red/black crocodile clips on the other.
The jump start point is located underneath the car to the right of the passenger side front wheel arch.

I think bump starting can bu99er the catalysers.
Best charge the battery. Have you got the optional optimate charger fitted in the boot (under the velcro'd panel above the fuel tank)? I found one there on mine but so far I haven't needed it.
If not then you'll have to crawl under the car!

o.k.,this happened to me not long ago and my advice to you is leave the windows open for the time being as you can't get into the car once the battery is completley dead.Or even better, take the roof off for now so you could get to the emergency door release.Other than that you'll have to get hold of the special jump start cable or a appropriate battery charger with a cigarette lighter attachment.Give leven technology a ring or visit their website at:~
www.leventechnology.co.uk I ordered my stuff from them and it was delivered the next day to my work....very helpful of them and they're also much cheaper than from dealers.Good luck!!

Yep, buy the adaptor thingy (either from Leven or via your dealer, who will sell you the same thing at the same price - he did for me anyway) + use a battery charger from Halfords which you plug into the mains. Trickle charger is no use when the battery is completely dead - if it does anything at all, it's far too slow.
All TVR have quiet a high standing current consumption due to the alarm/imobliser & ECU.I measured on the Chimaera once and it was about 250ma which worked out about 10 days before the battery started to loose charge.Have always used an Accumate with the Tuscan when leaving it standing for any period of time & it also prelongs the battery life the orignal in mine lasted over 3 years. If you leave the boot open though even an accumate can't keep up with the current drain from the battery & it will stay on constant charge.

Yeah, but it says somewhere in the manual if you use a charger with an output of more than 6 amps or something like that,it could damage some electrical components..and I read somewhere on a website regarding car batteries that if you overcharge them with a conventional charger,ie.not a trickle charger,it could explode and kill you!!!!WWHAHAHahahhahahaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...sorry...got carried away there...

Simple trick to keep battery alive with boot left open.
Flick the catch shut. Light goes out. No drain.
Also ask your dealer how to open car when dead. Its not difficult but Top Secret on Pistonheads. I've modded mine to make it even easier, but...I can't tell you how unless I know you as a genuine owner.
The boot release is a ford unit. Does anyone (joospeed?) know what from. Mine is damaged (not from the mod) and one from a scrapper would be nice if I knew which model. The original was held together with a stikaflex like sealant as used by TVR (hmm?) or the original supplier (name deleted for PT's benefit). Now held together with much stronger black gaffa.
I digress. I keep the jump leads in the garage with a v.large battery designed for leisure use and so it can be run to dry and recharged without damage. It's best to use regularly but like the original postee I also work away regularly leaving my TIV all lonesome and cold. I don't have power to the garage so this is necessary. I have tried solar chargers which although sold for 12v give about 6 in UK winter on a clear sunny day. They were cheap so I might buy 2 more and link in series with a voltage limiting diode set at 14v. What do you think? Its a real nause humping the Godzilla of all batteries into the house.
