Warranty cost!!!!
Discussion
I'm not saying it's a giveaway, but my 12,000 mile service cost me £1,050, with no extra's and I supplied the Mobil 1, and when I extended my 12 month WH warranty to 24 months, the premium was an extra £595, and that was close on 2 years ago. If you want piece of mind.......it's an ok deal, but no-one is forcing you to pay?

Just read warranty and service idea on TVR home page. Mentioning no names , £1600 for twelve months...., yeah rite! Great idea!
That includes a 12,000 mile service.
IMHO it's good that someone's trying to tackle this issue. Warranty Holdings aren't paying out on many engine claims so selling a car privately has become fraught with difficulty. This offers peace of mind.
It should increase the value of a used car by more than it costs.
If TVR really wanted to entice the likes of me (from a S2 111S) into a new TVR, they'd do well to take a leaf out of BMW's book. Missus picks up her new 320 td next week. Comes with three years warranty, three years breakdown cover and three years/60K free servicing. Now THAT would shore up residuals. Come on TVR, for a £40K+ car it's not too much to ask, is it?

A Speed Six 12000 mile service at TVR Power in Coventry is £587.56. The tappets, if required, is up to an additional £258.50. So it might be worth while getting your car delivered there.
However my main point of this post is:-
HH's offer is good and if it could be introduced dealer wide, might restore confidence in the Speed Six.
But, if a car has a full TVR (i.e. done at the Factory or Power) service history, does anybody know whether TVR would charge one for an engine re-build if required? If they do not, HH's deal looks expensive.

good point james ..
the way i see it is this : early cerbera sp6 / tuscans are now 4 + years old .. i can't see the factory doing engine rebuilds for free or at vastly reduced cost for the early cars for much longer .. this is what is hitting residuals - no-one has confidence in buying an early tuscan or cerbera sp6.
i think the point earlier about it restoring prices by at least the cost of the warranty has to be taken into consideration, if it works out that the service plus warranty is less than an increase in resale value then you effectively get a free service plus some change when you trade it in!!
.. if however it doesn't increase resale then it's still a worthwhile option imo for peace of mind, especially if you have a higher mileage earlier car ..
there's nothing to stop you getting non-service stuff done at somewhere like Central TVR if anything was hihglighted on the service at HH if you so wished .. best of both worlds?

The ridiculous bit that caught my eye in that home page article was the suggestion that because of the poor engine reliability the dealers were having to stick thousands onto the price of secondhand Tuscans, thereby putting the price of used Tuscans up and improving their residual values - do us all a favour - those thousands are whacked off the trade-in price not stuck on the forecourt price.
I would just like to re-iterate that this sounds a good deal when the 12k service is taken into account (approx 1K) as I use this dealer on my Tuscan. It should be applauded that this dealer is trying improve the sp6 engine reliability "perception" - as I have not read about many new cases. It would be nice if TVR could latch onto this, and offer a "standard" extended waranty via the dealership netwotk. And as someone said you don't have take it.
Hello All
I am a new owner of a 2001 Tuscan Speed Six. I wish I had found this site prior to buying the car - you guys are scaring the hell out of me!! What is the issue with the Speed Six engines? My car has just clocked 14000 miles, and it was last serviced by the previous owner at around 10,000 miles......can I expect to discover a 'few issues' at the next service? I hope that I won't regret trading in my very reliable 10 yr old 911!!!

Pete,
Don't panic. A significant number of the earlier cars suffered from valve train problems. Reasons are put down to a faulty batch of components, not heeding the warming up guidelines, etc. etc. I believe the head design was changed in later cars too to address the issue (and it's difficult to establish exactly when so it's not easy to know if you've got a new or old head).
14,000 miles is a good mileage so take care of it and don't let worry spoil your enjoyment of the car.
