Security in the Tuscan 2002 model
Discussion
Hello,
I've read various reports on the web regarding the security of the Tuscan, ranging from "OK" to "dismal".
So what are Tuscan owners experience? I'm not concerned with the security at when the car is at my house, it's very good. I'm more concerned with leaving it on the street when I go out.
Is the security Thatcham CAT1? Has anyone beefed up the security on their Tuscans?
I take delivery in late May.
Cheers.

The system is Thatcham Cat 1. There are ways of getting in but they take time. Anyway a broken window is the easiest.
As regards driving off I would imagine it is very hard, bestoke ECU very dificult to work on, bolted down bonnet etc.
Plus If they have nicked it I would imagine it is reasonably hard to sell on, it would soon be spotted. The numbers are very small in the UK unless it was spirited overseas.

These days if a professional car thief wants your car then he is going to get it no matter what you do to it or where you put it. He might not get it first time, but he will get it. Luckly the majority of car thieves out there are not pro's. Also totally agree that the onward sale of a TVR has always caused problems for thieves due to the limited numbers and degree of customisation of the cars making them very easy to identify without a lot of work doing to them.
One of the reasons why nicking the keys from the house and stealing them whilst they are being driven has gone up recently is due to being so much hassle to nick cars that are alarmed these days. As far as protecting yourself from this goes, I think that it is a mixture of luck and common sense. Doors locked when driving, keys always with you when you leave the car etc.
More of a concern to me these days is the thief after the stereo, mobile, empty cd case (lost my chimps rear screen for one of these!) or just out to scar somebody's pride and joy (whether it be through mental deficiency or alcohol). These are the ones that don't care what damage they do to get what they want. This again is luck and common sense. Parking in well lit public places etc.
I think that the moral of the story is that, be sensible and enjoy using the Tiv cause thats what you bought it for! If you worry too much about it then you'll end up wishing you had never bought it.

P.S. Always find it reasurring if I park next to some big expensive german car. Cause I'm sure that any discerning tea leaf or yob would rather have a go at that then my British beast.
