Gentlemen, I am thinking about chopping in the chim against a Tuscan. I have been offered a good part/ex for my car against a used Tuscan from a TVR dealer. Question is, what age car should I go for to avoid problems? I understand that there have been various suspension tweaks/modifications to date and therefore handling with the 18" rims has improved over the production life. The cars I am considering are W-Y reg, but I'd like to get the best car for the least money (who wouldn't). I know all about the finger followers, roof catches and door release buttons - but what else is there to consider? Also, what experiences have fellow owners had with moving their insurance off a Chim onto to a Tuscan - any significant differences? All advice gratefull received. Tnanks..

Bryan,

I changed from a Chimaera 500 and my insurance for the Tuscan is cheaper! (Hard roof and solid rear window has something to do with it) My car(Sept 2001)had the suspension mods (RR as standard), revised window controls and other 'fixes'. I had the 18" wheels. I experienced some problems with the wipers and the gear stick came off in my hand! Everything is OK now and running well (touch wood).

Mine is a March 2001 car. Everything great. I would always recoment going for the later cars is you can mainly because although the earlier cars have had the mods the handling cannot be changed.

My understanding is roughly as follows:

Drilled disks a la red rose came in early 2001/late 2000 and first suspension mods

Amended suspension geometry summer 2001

I run mine on 16" and it's like a go-kart. Prior to the later suspension mods on 18" they can get very skittish on the bumpy country roads.

If you want to talk through the handling changes drop me an e-mail with your number and I'll ring you

Mine is a July 2000 car, but apart from a replacement gearbox no other problems and have now covered 8500 miles. mine had the window and roof catch mods.

I may well be selling in a few months so let us know if you are interested in a Silver Tuscan with full Black interior, 18" alloys, CD Changer. Bought from and Serviced by Fernies

Thanks for the reply chaps.

My memory is failing, perhaps someone can help? I remember that around the beginning of 2001 (?) TVR hiked the price of the Tuscan from £40K to £48K. If a £40K car was already on order, you could have it, otherwise it was only a super-dooper Tuscan with DAB you could spec. Remind me, what did these £48K cars have on them as standard - where they all RR spec, 18" wheels, DAB? I cannot remember much about it - but where are all these cars now (Pre Tuscan S for sure).
