Have been a TVR fan for a long time, based purely on a non-technical, "oh my god its beautiful... I want one even though i don't know much about tech issues... gimme gimme gimme" type of way. however cash is the main stopping point bearing in mind the costly stories I read in the Cerbera chat area such as leaking, condesation, whistling noises, won't start, etc.. My question is ... Is the tuscan going to be more reliable or am I gonna have to just accept the fact that running costs are going to be thousands a year.. literally by the sound of it. Cheers Dan.

If you are buying a Tuscan I assume it will be new, so you have the peace of mind of warranty to start with and based on your experiences you can opt to buy extended warranties to cover the majority of likely problems. I have owned 2 Chimaeras over the last six years and the reliablity has been better than my Peugeot. Yes, there have been a few glitches but nothing that was catastrophic. If you have a good dealer (I use Mole Valley TVR) who is sympathetic and loves the cars, they identify potential problems and offer the best solutions before major costs are involved. The TVR experience is unmatched by any other mode of transport barring superbikes (if I had one of these I would be dead - Full bike licence but 10 years since I rode one!) Go with your heart and enjoy the moments Have fun

You have got to go for it - there will be the odd glitch (I am waiting to pick up my Tuscan), but it will be well worth it! Think of the looks you will get!

I have used my Tuscan RR everyday for the last 7 months and done 6000 miles. It has been totally reliable, starts first time every time, is very fast and handles extremely well. My only gripe is that it eats rear tyres.

Im in Germany serving with the British Army and have the opportunity to buy a Tuscan tax free. I am currently undecided about wether to buy a Porsche Boxster S or a Tuscan, I am not a rich man and the most important issue for me is that I dont lose any money on the deal! I will keep whatever car for a year and then sell. undoubtedly I will make at least 2K on the Porsche but the TVR is a unknown proposition, my heart says Tuscan but my head says Porsche! anybody got any thoughts on this? Don't buy a TVR (or any other car?) to make money, but it because you want to drive and enjoy it....if you think you will enjoy it then go for it (but make sure you know the running costss as well, £500 service bills every 6,000 miles, rear tyres at £200 every 8,000 miles (on a tuscan aparantly this is about average!!) plus whatever else you wear out (brake pads, disks, etc) and then decide if you can afford to run a tuscan and still get back enough money to satisfy your needs. Looking at the current used car market I would guess the Porsche would be the better bet, but as an owner of a Tuscan, I guess you already know which I would buy ================ Graham and Rosie

Paul, I agree with Graham & Rosie, the Boxster is the sound logical one that if your head rules your heart you should go for however if the other way round it's the Tuscan every time. I've had my Tuscan for just about a year and it still gives me a huge grin every time I drive it.Recently had a test drive in both a Boxster S and 996C4 and neither came close to giving me the same enjoyment as the Tuscan. Final score : TVR 2 Porsche 0 !!
