I am currently looking to buy a Tuscan (year 2000). It has had a new dash which now reads 400 miles. The owner thinks the car has done about 8000 miles but it has had its 12,000 service!?. Does anyone know of a way I can verify the exact milage?

Also at the 12k service he was told it may need new cats @£1200. Is this a major problem as far as the cars performance/reliability is concerned?

I would imagine if the engine has been rebuilt then Blackpool will have a record of it. Previous service records will show the mileage - if there's no history with it then something sounds a bit dodgy to me! Don't worry that the car has had its 12000 mile service but has only done 8000 miles. Tuscans should be serviced every 6000 miles or 12 months, whichever is sooner.

I haven't heard of replacing the cats at 12000 - I certainly hope they don't need replacing! The tappets are adjusted (I think) every 12000 miles which will make the 12, 24, 36000 etc services rather more expensive than the ones in between.

I don't regret buying my Tuscan at all. There's been a few niggles, but nothing I didn't expect. I can't wait to get it back from the garage tomorrow morning! (Nothing serious, just an oil pressure sensor)

Speak to Archives(?) at the factory. They will have a complete record of the cars service history, mileage major parts bought for it etc, as long as it is has been serviced by a main dealer. I verified the history/mileage etc with them before I purchased my Chimaera. They are very helpful but you can only get at them before 3pm I believe.
