Squeaky fan-belt

I'm gonna have a look at the fan-belt over the weekend as it's squeaky when cold, and is damn annoying! Whether I actually do anything is another question, but does anyone have any advice regarding this?

(Bearing in mind my technical expertise comprises of fitting stabilizers to my sisters BMX...)

Can anyone recommend a good resource for making minor adjustments to the engine, for example the fan-belt!
