I am in the process of looking to change from a Chimaera to a Tuscan. However not being an expert on Tuscans I am confused as to what the different models there 'appear to be'. I have heard of Tuscan, Tuscan 4.0 (is there anything else), Tuscan Speed 6, Tuscan S, Tuscan Red Rose, Tuscan R.

Is there anywhere that I can find out about what all these are and what the differences are? I need to be able to ask the right questions when looking otherwise I feel I may end up buying the wrong thing?

Many Thanks,

Roy.

Do budgets matter?

If not then go for the Tuscan S.... Be warned though!

1 - Depreciation is huge!
2 - Excessive speed can be addictive.....

Tuscan 4.0 360 bhp
Tuscan Red Rose 4.0 380bhp
Tuscan S 4.0 390bhp
Tuscan S 4.0 400bhp (2003 model)
Tuscan 3.6 350bhp

Red Rose cars and S cars have standard air con, gas discharge lights, DAB radio, slightly different suspension and wheels (18" standard) and bigger brakes.
S cars have spoilers.

A Tuscan R is the same as a T440R which is the same car as the T400R Le Mans car.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Andy.

Not Really, seen an S in a dealers 2002 on an 02 5K miles plate up for £42K which seems a bit steep to me but looks in pretty good shape.

Tuscan S cars should also have the close ratio gearbox. However there have been delays getting these installed in the cars. Some cars (Have been) are being retrofitted or customers can get some money back on the car from TVR.

My Tuscan S sold for £38K (No CR Box) in Nov last year and it was a year old so please make sure you haggle.

Alistaire,

Looked at your profile and you say the car depreciated by £13K in 12 months (based on £51k purchase). That's about the same as my experience. My 4.0 litre (non-S) was £45K new and after 13 months I got £30K on sale or return, not pleasant but that's the reality if a) it's a straight sale (no trade in) and b) you only keep a TVR for a short time.

cheers
Mike

Just to add some more info on the Red Rose:-

Red Rose was an early performance version of the Tuscan and had larger brakes discs/calipers, more BHP, 18 inch alloys, sporter stiffer suspension and RR written in magic marker on the engine block or rocker cover

A/C and all other accessories were optional extra's

When they were first heard of at the Motorshow TVR said that the cars would feature a red rose badge at the front, this excited most customers...however it never made it to full production model sadly

S had extra spec as well as performance items. It also had a two year full factpry warranty rather than the normal one year car and paint and a further 12 months engine block.

Hope that helps

Tuscan RR has the older suspension. Mounted in different place than the current tuscan and tuscan S.
If I had the choice again, I would go for the S.
